The requirements with regard to safety in the workplace are strict. Employer and employee both have certain obligations under the Dutch Working Conditions Act. Today we take a closer look at the ‘Toolbox meeting’. According to the Working Conditions Act, you as an employer are obliged to provide information about the risks associated with the work and the measures that can be taken to prevent or limit the risks. As a SCC certified company, Lasmotec is obliged to organize a toolbox meeting for all employees at least 4 times a year.
What is a toolbox meeting?
A toolbox meeting is a short meeting in the form of a presentation about safety in the workplace. A wide range of topics in the field of safe working can be discussed in these safety meetings. Some examples of topics that can be central during a toolbox meeting within Lasmotec are:
- The use of personal protective equipment;
- The use of tools;
- Work at height;
- Reporting accidents and/or unsafe situations;
- Hazardous Substances;
- Order and tidiness in the workplace;
- COVID-19
During a toolbox meeting you provide information about recognizing hazards and how you can protect yourself against these hazards. In addition, you provide information about and discuss with each other how safety can be improved. You enter into discussions with each other, encourage colleagues to think and give space for exchanging experiences. These aspects of a toolbox meeting contribute to promoting safety within your organization.
The purpose of a toolbox meeting is to draw attention to safety. By using a toolbox meeting you can increase safety awareness within your organization and safety in the workplace and that is what it is all about. Everyone returns home safely after a working day!
